Week 9
During this week we wrote a list of different type of topics we were interested in. Then brainstormed about these topics and narrowed our choices down. I had a list of things that I was interested or passionate about and questions myself how much do I know about this topic and what I want to find out. (Shopping, Solar Panels, Global Warming etc.) Started the proposal, in the proposal we had to write background information about our topic and what we would be doing (Research processes ethics and chosen capability). We used laptops to find more information about the topic and find out more information about it. My first topic was about shopping addictions, but after trying to figure about some things I thought about the environment. I’ve always wanted to learn about solar panels because it’s benefits the environment a lot.

Week 10
Finalise the proposal and we were shown a few examples of some proposals to help us out. Teacher explained to us clearly about all the requirements to complete this subject and achieve a good grade. We were asked to write a letter to the teacher to explain what we would like to achieve in the holidays. I briefly wrote what I would like to accomplish during the holidays in letter form so the teacher could reply and give me some advice about my research.

Holidays
Sent the letter to the teacher and also the draft of the proposal. I tried to determine what the focus question, which was very difficult because I was still unsure what I wanted to find out. Finally I came up with a focus question which was How do solar panels provide energy for your home?" I want to know more about what parts of solar panels play the most important role to help produce energy. How much sun light is gathered and how is it stored etc.
Got my draft back for my proposal with comments on what I needed. Tried to work on it and go into more details about the processes.
Overall didn't do much.

Came up with guiding questions:
  • What are solar panels?
  • How does the solar panel absorb energy?
  • How do solar panels store energy?

Term 3
Week 1
I worked on the proposal more. Used laptops and googled solar panels, I found some useful information about it and just copied and pasted the websites for later. Then during supervise I went to the library to find some books about solar energy/solar panels. Read them for homework/supervise/research kept the book that was most useful and some of the books just has a few pages of information so I photocopied the pages that were relevant and highlighted some of the main points that were needed.

Week 2
I found a few more sites that had interesting information, I just skim med it and again I saved it for later. Watched a video and took some notes about plagiarism.

Did the web resources I think. Read some more information about solar panels and saved it for later. I thought about a few questions for a survey/interview. Only came up with 3 which were:
  • What kind of factual parts are used to make up a solar panel?
  • How does the solar panel use the sun to produce electricity?
  • How does the solar panel absorb energy?

Find details on a local solar panel company for me to survey/interview,
I was planning to go to a few places to acquire some more information about all the parts etc.
If it's not possible for me to go in for an interview I will email them as soon as I get my questions done.

Week 3
Write journals. We were told to find an article highlight key points about an article of our chosen topic. We needed to identify key words or key phrases that are important to our research and analyse the information. We had to write why it is relevant to our project

I had to do the web resources which I had forgotten about, looked at most the sites I had saved and wrote what kind of information I could obtain from it.
Looked at a few sites and saw a youtube link for "How solar panels work", I watched the video and took some notes and just clicked on more videos and saved the links.

Week 4
Prepare for oral presentation about the focus question.
Finish off the survey
